Ingredients
  

  • 4 slices challah or hearty white bread
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 cup milk warmed
  • 2 tbsp melted butter plus more for cooking
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Maple syrup honey, or powdered sugar for serving

Method
 

  1. Dry bread in a 275°F oven for 10 mins, flipping halfway.
  2. Whisk yolks, warm milk, melted butter, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt in a shallow bowl.
  3. Heat skillet over medium or griddle to 350°F and grease with butter.
  4. Dip each bread slice in custard for about 5 seconds per side.
  5. Cook 2–3 mins per side (or 4–5 mins on a griddle) until golden brown.
  6. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
